Yes it is very ikea of B&O to leave this up to us, and yes i did the same thing and dropped the screws and left a mark on the base. I advise anyone else, to put the top together, with the stand LYING DOWN! However, these a absolutely stunning stands and really make a massive difference to the 4000's aesthetics and simplicity. They are over priced
