I'd guess that the Avant will sound better, Kenwood weren't exactly renown for producing fantastic speakers. Your best bet, however, is just to compare them now. If you do want to look at getting a subwoofer instead of upgrading to BeoLab 9s, then the best bets would be a BeoLab 2, B&W PV1 or else from their range, an REL subwoofer (these are very good indeed) or a Velodyne.
