The switch contacts actually become oxidised with age,and become blackened depending upon the atmosphere the equipment has been kept in.You can measure the increased resistance,so it's no surprise that signal quality is affected. You can achieve a temporary solution with solvents, but need to be careful what you use,so as not to damage the plastic

This transformer has a thermal fuse, sometimes you can remove the fuse and wire a new one in.Otherwise you have to replace the transformer. If it looks "cooked",I suspect a problem with the secondary stage,it's a switch mode chip circuit! I have the manual, and could copy the relevant section. Regards, Nick

As you say,the switch is a good quality device (German) The only permanant solution to the intermittant contact problem is to actually dismantle the switch assembly!! It can be done, although it needs great patience as you can imagine, but the results are good, and the repair of course lasting . I've done several (mad or what?) and I only gibber occasionally

No a faulty tuner won't influence the av input. The connections to the scart socket may well have become dry jointed. This chassis can suffer from a variety of dry joints, after all these sets can be at least twenty years old,but still capable of good results!
-
This is very common with the MX2000,and is usually due to dry joints inside the tuner/if module. These modules were made by ITT and are long unavailable, but can be repaired, although it's fiddly. You can remove the module from the board , carefully dismantle it,and resolder the connections.

Direct sunlight will affect the sensitivity of the sensor, being pure infra red! Mount the sensor box with the sensor facing slightly down,it will still work ok but won't be getting the sun directly on it. Use packing type foam or even that spray can expanding stuff to fill the space inside the box and insulate the electronics from varying temperatures

Transceiver cable for the MCL82 is special, but you can use alarm system seven core cable for the MCL2 sensor.Max run is about 10-12 metres, and you will need to work out a new colour code. I've installed outdoor boxes for the sensors for both MCL and ML systems. They should'nt be positioned in direct sunlight. Also the boxes are not waterproof
-
The MCL system is essentially an extension speaker system,so you can't use low level cable such as Cat 5/6 etc. The cable comprises a speaker pair,a data cable and a 8volt supply cable. The data cable is screened, and the screen is used as the return or ground also. You could use normal (42 strand) speaker cable, with a seperate cable containing a

I think the original deck was a bit fussy playing some discs due to the clamper?Praps due to the vertical mounting also. The cd pro tangential deck was/is a complete integrated assembly including decoder,so the signal processing is different. The laser pickup can't make much difference to the sound quality, but the signal processing circuits certainly

No major probs with this unit, and bit's n pieces still seem to be available. The original radial deck was a bit fussy about the discs it would play,so the upgrade to cd pro overcame this, and sounded better too! Otherwise they seem to have aged quite well.Oddly, the System2500 with attached speakers is quite rare,I suppose people seperate them to make
