My bet would be the cartridge faulty. In my opinion, re-tipping is not viable option as you are still going to be using the old suspension and coils etc.. My advice is to "bite the bullet" and order a new SMMC4 from Sound-smith. You will be amazed at what a new cartridge does for the deck and your records.

Where have you lot all been for the last 2-3 months. Every retailers sales have been pathetic. Why do you single out B&O as having a particularly bad time? In the US, even the car giants are being bailed out by the government as well as the banks and in the UK and the rest of Europe there are retailers going bust by the bucketload, manufacturers

AFAIK the channels that the doors slide in are designed to run dry. The problems are usually caused by old lubricant that has been used inadvertantly. The old lubricant dries out and attracts dust which builds up in the mechanism and causes problems. Clean the mechanism with a cotton bud damped in isopropanol and if the problem persists then look elsewhere

Probably dirty laser lens by the sound of the symptoms. Take a cotton wool bud and try gently cleaning the lens with a circular motion. Don't press too hard! Ideally the bud would be damped in isopropanol but as you are unlikely to have any a dry one will have to do. Try the CD again. Let us know what happens

I think you will have to leave it plugged in and wait for three hours. It should then request the PIN again. Once you are in and the system is working I would deactivate it and you won't have any more hassle! It won't stop anybody from nicking it, it just causes you grief.

Royvdbb: Thanks for all your help, at least that is cleared up now. To be honest I have always loved the look of the charcoal grey against the metal, however it was my fiancee trying to persuade me to change to red! At least I can now tell her that they dont exist. What sort of value have these got now? I use my lab 5000s with a Beocenter 9500. All

Peter : I have seen blue and grey but not red. My 5000s are grey as are my 3000s. Red would be quite fun though!! Blue cloth seems to be worth a bit more than grey and non matching corner square (ie blue with grey or vice verse) is the sign of a non original hybrid pair. Red!?!? Perish the thought. Would be like having a Powder blue Ferrari or a baseball

Peter : Have a pair of CX50s and a pair of CX100s both with all original drivers and no signs of foam rot. The CX50s are at least 16 years old. I have also seen CX50's and CX100's that appear to be OK but when you give 'em a bit of stick the foam disintegrates! Having said that, most of the sets that come my way have obviously gone already
