Sorry if this has already been covered, but i'm playing around with my setup and i've disconnected the BL4000's and connected them to the DSS module on the TV and my problem is that the speakers in the TV sound totally different to the BL4000 and there doesn't seem to be any way of compensating the sound. You need to have the speakers settled and placed properly in a near silent room to get a fair demonstration. And it varies heavily on the quality and type of music you put through them! I find the BS1 has an enhanced sound, BL4000's are rather honest and if the content is rubbish, then that is what you will hear. So what are you going to connect

BS4 is a good choice overall, very flexible and around the same price as BS1. And yes 4000's are frighteningly good, as well as a bargain (second hand). I have BS4 with BL4000 as a stepping stone until i can afford ALT speakers... BS1 is great for a small quiet room, very good package, but you just can't turn it up, it distorts shockingly
