wasti: I am astonished. Does it mean Chris that I cannot use the Beovox with any sound system without having the beolab 5000? Not exactly, but you do really need compatible speakers - as Craig has mentioned - with the extra DIN output to connect these to. The 2500's were really designed to enhance the high frequencies of certain speakers and by

Hi Jeff, have you narrowed the problem down to a defective motor? If so do you have the part number or spec's for it as I have a few miscellaneous motors from all sorts of vintage products hanging around. Chris.

alexanderwebb: after the 'shake n feel' method it is obvious the abr's are dud. any repair ideas or are the better off being laid to rest? That is the million$ question. Now for someone like myself, and other like minded beoprojectaddicts, I would see it as a challenge to be relished. A fair bit of work involved and a very satisfying project

First thing to do is give them a shake, if there is something rattling inside then the ABR's are shot. This is likely to be the case sooner rather than later I'm afraid unless they are 45.2's which don't suffer with this. They will most likely also have foam rot in the bass drivers too. Other than this I don't know of any other way

A hard reset is always worth a try. Unplug the PSTN base for 10 minutes and see if this makes a difference. I've had a few anomolies with my Beocom 6000 which were solved by doing this. Chris.

CX speakers are worth every penny if you are stuck for space, refoaming them is easy peasy compared to most other drivers. Comparison with replacement drivers is not exactly a controlled science as new drivers will need a fair few playing hours to "run in" and may well sound just the same as refoamed ones in a few months time in any case.

To be brutally honest they are pretty useless unless you have the correct set up for them (beolab 5000 system). I had a pair in fairly good condition which I bought purely on looks and to me they ended up as being no more than very pretty paper weights! I did play them on their own just the once and they almost caused the wax in my ears to melt - "yodelling

I think S45's have rubber surrounds though as that would explain this. I have yet to come across any S type speakers with original foam surround which haven't suffered from rot. Chris.

From what I've seen on ebay recently. At present, items with the best resale value are:- Beolit radios. Beosound1 Remote controls are doing pretty well. Beogram CDX. Beolab speakers are also holding on quite well. Items NOT doing too well are any of the CRT TV's including the RF Avants. Chris.

Value depends on condition, but they do seem to command a very high price regardless. Around £250 for average ones and anything over £500 for mint. A couple of years back a pair of mint condition ones sold for over £1,000 - which was ridiculous to be honest. The tweeters are each held on with 4 screws (one in each corner) into the
