B&O do accept trade ins and I have bought a number o items from dealers over the years. Usually serviced and a good price.

The MMC4 is a Moving Iron design - do you have the 640P set to MC? If so, change it to MM.
-
If the midrange units are not working, I would suggest a problem with the cross over - the Penta is a powered speaker rather than active so have a passive cross over above the amplifier. The other problem sounds like the protection circuit switching on - what colour is the light on the amplifier? Have you tried plain speaker link? In the short term

You will love this! To comply with new regulations which say that products have to be able to be switched completely off, the Beocenter 2 and a number of other products will have a switch put into the mains lead. However this is the only modification so that if you use it and you have a PIN code active, the system will need to have the PIN code entered

I use a Cambridge Audio DAC Magic. I use it to my Beoport as well as to my BM5500 from my PowerMac.

B&O no longer have any spares for this model I have been told. Whether you can get one elsewhere I couldn't say.

Beolab 5000 system is the obvious choice. Best built system available and still one of the best sounding. Get one of the rare Beogram 3000 turntables and a pair of cubes and you will have a real classic. Probably the one system I will always keep, along with my Beomaster 4401 of course!

Using Beolab 1s with a Beomaster 8000 seems a bit of a waste. To get the best from an 8000, you need big passive speakers - something with a decent bass unit. MS150s are the ideal match. Not much Wife Approval Factor though!!

You need to contact the dealer with the serial number. B&O will, after checking that the set is not stolen, issue you with a PIN number - not the one you have forgotten that will allow you to unlock the set. You can then assign another pin. There should not be any charge usually!

You don't! Just use it offline - the log in is for a dealer log in and password. Not necessary for programming.
