I've never had that problem. Perhaps I hurried the process. The Shure Test LP is a good one! And a complete Discwasher kit such as this is something to consider. Includes the Zerostat (which will literally shock you if it's working properly).

You'll know when the stylus is shot - you can hear the distortion. Or get a cartridge test record available on eBay that will put it throught its paces. The crackle sound you hear most likely is dust; maybe some scratches in the vinyl as well. Get yourself a record cleaning brush such as Discwasher or Parastat. J&R here in town sells them .

The user manual will contain a wiring diagram (page 14 in mine), and you can obtain a copy either on this site or B&O's.

I used to own one of what's under it - a beautiful Tandberg TR-2075 Mk II Receiver. Back in its day (mid-late 70's) their stuff was as goodlooking as B&O - perhaps better. Great performance as well.

Even tho we have 2 repair facilities here in town (Advisory, who the local stores will refer you to, and Technetron), I send my stuff to Atlantic Systems in Hanover, MA. They're good to work with (Paul Tilden, shop manager), do the job right, and charge a reasonable fee. They're the authorized Northeast service center for B&O.

Are you using the right powerlink cable? You need the thick, Mk II version .
-
Somehow I knew that this one wouldn't sell.
-
Sometimes it surprises me where you find B&O for sale. Like here. Sears is owned by the same company that owns K-Mart.
-
You need what I showed a photo of. That's your only choice.

You don't need to replace the entire driver if they just need refoaming. Just get a repair kit such as this . The seller apparently provides support as well.
