I agree ATV2 is not as elegant as I might have expected. Still it's a class leader given it's price to function ratio.

It will work. I've done it with an Avant and DLO dock. However, I agree with Alex: AppleTV is better suited to the task.

Russ, Just to confirm once again, does the BV8 have a sleep timer? I mean one that will turn the TV off as any regular bedroom TV (15-30-45-etc). I don't mean a built in clock function as in other B&) equipment. Seems a rational feature for a bedroom set.

I can confirm controlling AppleTV with Lintronic. All functions work, except fast scroll.

I've had an Apple TV controlled y Beo4 via Lintronic since April of last year with flawless operation. Smooth fast scrolling is nearly impossible because of the manner in which Apple has implemented fast scroll. I can't imagine the shipping fee. BV8 looks promising for us NTSC types, but I man I wish it were the BV6.

Ebay has had some amazing Avant bargains. They don't come up a lot, but their prices have really come down. I think for $2,000 an Avant is still worth it.

Or you could consider buying an Avant in the USA. One recently sold on ebay for about $2,000! This will be NTSC all the way, and while it may not control a Japanese cable box, you can use a Lintronic to handle the conversion.
