Yes, the volume can be controlled from the Ouverture buy of course you will also be adjusting the volume in any active speakers you may have connected to the other powerlink socket on the Ouverture. If you require indepenent control of the passive then you must use the masterlink interface together with an IR eye. I am afraid that I do not know why

All CD50's are well beyond their sell by date and are becoming unreliable. Fixing them is a bit beyond the average DIYer and you will need a specialist. The only one I know of is based in the deep south but someone in your area may be along later to help in this respect. My general advice would be to consider buying the later CD5500 model which
