Actually I agree with Trip. All my recent purchases have been of excellent quality. I suppose I do look with rose tinted spectacles at the older equipment where just about the entire content was B&O - I am thinking audio here of course! - but I do believe that B&O select their suppliers carefully in the main and I for one am happy to pay the

Any Beomaster with datalink will work though clearly get one which uses a Beolink 1000/Beo4. I imagine Ridax could probably help with an IR receiver though. What made you choose the Beogram? Quite an unusual choice though the electronics are excellent - just not many audiophiles would bother to find out!

They are broadly the same but the connections differ and there are some small internal changes commensurate with the age difference. The power differences are due to measurement changes. You can of course connect the 9000 to Penta 2s though the 9000 has no Powerlink sockets so you will use Speakerlink, which the 2 has. I think he is being dishonest

Interesting question. The best CD player was probably the early CD5500 as this had the brushless motor for the transport. These models in my experience all had the TDA1541A chip. Later CD5500s had the single CD cut out and I believe changed the transport to the same as those in the CD6500 and 7000. My 7000 and late 5500 both have the TDA1541A chip but

The cartridge is the expensive bit. The TX2 is just the same as all these tangential decks but no Datalink. Bit pricey in my opinion.

On the boomy note, have you got the loudness on?

ICE speakers are far more sensitive to hum. It sounds however that you have an earth problem anyway. The Beoport was well known for having this problem and so is the Beolink Active. You need to connect PIN 2 and PIN 7 to each other in the Y connector. This was done in later models.

Agree with just about everything you say. I prefer the CLs to the later cartridges too, though the CL is very temperature sensitive - probably not an issue in California! - and I prefer my 4000 to my 8002. Not sure about the suspension issue - all I know is that the older the cartridge, the less likely it is to track CD4 records - something I would

There is a fault in the arm movement detector.
