It could be either the belt slipping on the motor which opens the lid (under the right hand side) or the assist spring on the left hand hinge which helps the motor with the opening. I wouldn't think it would be a lubrication problem though unless a previous owner has been pouring oil on the mechanism and it has become gunked up, the design calls

Does it only switch off when using a connected item or does the same thing happen when using just the radio? This should help in identifying if the problem is with the beomaster or tape deck. I doubt if a lack of connected speakers is causing the problem. Chris.

You need to check the fuse for continuity, a visual check isn't really conclusive. If you don't have a continuity meter to do this try wrapping some foil around the fuse and trying again - but this is only for very very short testing purposes and should be removed ASAP or you could cause untold damage to the beogram. THIS IS NOT A RECOMMENDED

The RL140 bass drivers are a completely different kettle of fish compared to CX's. The tolerance is very very tight and will require shimming to ensure getting them just right. Not a job for the novice I'm afraid. Chris.

The fuse is simple enough to replace, it is near the power supply inside the deck. To access it you need to put the Beogram into the service position. To do this there are 2 screws under the left hand side of the Beogram which need removing. This allows you to lift the whole of the top section which is hinged on the right hand side. Before you lift
