Sounds to me like the sound module is on it's way to circuit board heaven. Always worth trying a different speaker setting if that worked before - choosing BeoLab 8000s should be fine.

I am a huge fan of the Apple TV as a product (in case you hadn't noticed already ). I'd strongly urge you go for one - they're absolutely brilliant. I'd use a dedicated DVD player too, and don't connect it via HDMI - connect it via scart!

I'm a fan of the BeoCenter 6 personally - stunningly good picture and sound, and IMO the most beautiful designed set I've seen. My favourite BeoVision/Center from B&O, including discontinued models.

Try changing the switches on the BeoLab 3s, so the right becomes the left and left becomes the right. This should allow you to tell whether the problem is with the socket or with the sound board.

This should be possible. The BeoLab 5 will switch to the digital input whenever it receives a signal...
