There's a more low-tech solution for this that might actually work better for some setups - a regular master-slave extension cord. When the device connected to the master socket pulls enough (an adjustable amount) current, the cord switches the rest of the sockets on.

Don't worry about the Beomaster yet, you apparently just have a cable that is wired for output from the DIN, not for input. It's not a faulty cable, just not the one you need for this purpose. You could open the DIN connecter (if it's possible without ruining it) and swap the two signal pins over, or get another cable. I always buy adapters

I can't really make it out from the picture, but there is supposed to be a gap of about 1 mm all around. Are you perhaps just missing the bumper at the front right corner? The lid is so flimsy that I suppose it would just warp with time in that case, just like the rear edge sag develops if anything at all is kept on top of the deck.

Wonder why the BS8 wasn't equipped with a detachable handle and a battery...
