...a fancy MX with bells and whistles?

I think this thread is well worth preserving for posterity, as it goes back to pretty much the early days of the new Beoworld and is continually updated by almost everyone, even posters who don't always contribute on some of the other forums. I seem to recall that this thread sprang from a thread I started about what everyone's favourite song

Thanks everyone! I think that everyone who loves B&O needs one Beolit somewhere in their home. They are still so useable, even here in the UK with DAB, that they just make sense. All the designs are SO B&O it is untrue :) I could go on forever about the ball-bearing tuning indicator on the Beolit 600, or the fold down handle and pop out 'feet'

Just took delivery of a Beolit 600 today that Martin fixed up for me, so thought it a good time to take a few photos of my Beolit collection. Still no Beolit 1000 in there, but I'm working on it! See if you can spot them all (no prizes though!):

Nice! Which model is the valve set in the backround? Some early post-war model from the looks of it?
-
Turbo: The more power you can feed the Pentas with, -the better, this is of course true for most speakers but I think it is more obvious on the Pentas than many other speakers. Spot on Jens! The Penta is a difficult speaker to drive, and here at least, power = control :)
-
Xseries: Personally I do not buy into the argument that you need 150 watts to drive a 150watt speaker! The ratings on the speakers are input levels and a bit like 0-60 times for a car - pretty meaningless if one car is geared for the next gear change at 59mph and another at 62mph! Check the sensitivity (or power at a consistent level of dB) in the specifications
-
Welcome to the fourm! Steer clear of the X35 speakers - they're rubbish and will not do the rest of the system justice. £325 is a bit steep unless the system is mint and includes the Beogram record player with a decent cartridge (stylus) at this price? I'm guessing you'll want a CD player as well, so you should factor in around £150ish

Hi there We've had similar threads on this subject before, and the real issue is the amplifier in the 5500/6500/7000 Beomasters not really poweful enough to handle the Beovox Pentas at anything other than moderate listening volumes. The amp in the 5000 (which I own) is considerably better, but still doesn't really do the job with the Beovox

moxxey: Friedmett: Keep you B&O happy and it will keep you happy. If the software works. Sure. If it doesn't, it frustrates immensely. In the collector's world Moxxey, there isn't any software, so no frustration. Any other problems can be fixed by those in the know if you know where to find them (just like the A-Team).
