  • Re: Media server RAM help (please)

Changed my mind - put in the original SIMM I had and booted the machine, it works up until a point in as much as it tries to boot XP from an old IDE HD I have yet when it reaches the loading screen it switches off. Through a process of elimination I think it is a bad PSU at fault as I recycled this from an old machine. Incidentally I bought an extra

Thanks guys - thought someone would work it out a memory bank is obviously more than one. I cannot test this until I buy another SIMM - will keep you informed.

  • Media server RAM help (please)

Hi all: Apologies for staring a new thread but I think this is the easiest way to get specific responses: As some know I am building a media server. The board I am using is this one: http://www.foxconnchannel.com/product/Motherboards/detail_spec.aspx?ID=en-us0000006 I haven't built a PC for ages however, I am fairly competent. I think I have a RAM

  • Re: MX 4000 questions

Hi: Thanks I have a Beovision 1 myself but could not really afford to get her one of these. I understand that the sound quality of the MX4000 I have will not be as good as say with a Beovision 1 but until I can afford to upgrade the MX4000 for her you suggest I need a Beolink module. I am unsure what one of these is, however, I hazzard a guess at it

  • Re: MX 4000 questions

Edit: I barely understand the difference between powerlink, datalink and masterlink, indeed I only just remembered the term datalink. As far as I am aware, powerlink is for connecting speakers, I know nothing of datalink. masterlink carries Audio signals and coupled with a RF cable, transmits video also. I have checked around the forum but the other

  • Re: MX 4000 questions

Hi all: My MX4000 is now sitting on the wall as planned. It does not have ML (were any of them equiped with this). This therefore brings me onto my next question: If in the future I picked up an Ouerture or something simillar, could this be conected to the TV thus utilising the TV speaker. Also, could I then get a wireless speaker (B&O or other

  • Re: Media server control options

Hi: Why don't you install mac osx aka leopard on your pc (now there's a challenge if you like to tinker ...we have some Dells running like that in my office) It's unix based and runs fairly solid. I have worked with pcs for over 10 years and when we switched last year I have to admit that it's been more than worth it.... Mr gates lost

  • Re: Media server control options

Hi: I like both the Ipod touch and the Linux VDR option, possibly the latter slightly more as that involves some kind of construction (of the kind discussed above). If at all possible, I would probably like to get fully away from Windows and I do have some place a copy of Urbuntu. As this is a version of Linux I guess I could get it to run VDR. I really

  • Re: Media server control options

Hi gents: Thanks for all your replies. The reason why I want to distribute the screen image is born out of boredom. About a year ago I decided that I wanted to build a server (to serve exactly what was unknown to me at the time). I had loads of bits of old computers lying around and as I worked in an IT department, there was a big full tower case going

  • Media server control options

Hi all: I am in the process of building a media server. It is in a full tower case and once I have added the RAM it will be ready. My plan is that this is gonig to be attached to a router and shared throughout the house yet stored in a closed cupboard out of the way because it clearly won't look nice. I then hope to use video senders to transmit
