Did you purchase the speakers new, or used? Check the serial numbers (under the speaker grille), they should match and have an L and an R on the 2 speakers. I suspect that you have a mis-matched pair.

BeoMedia 1 has the external power supply, and an internal power management/control/monitoring board...both are prone to failure in early units...your symptom fits the profile for in internal PCB.

I'm wondering which of those segment houses the hard-drive...or has Apple once again sold us on a new paradigm for 'essentiality', and isn't that one of B&O's core concepts?

Hi Dario, in our previous location we had a secluded listening room which was about 18' x 12', and I found it too small to really allow the BeoLab 5's to fully express themselves...I have never heard them in a room which I have thought too large.
