You don't say where you are Duncan but in the UK, these TV's are virtually worthless and are obtainable for not much more than the price of the remote, say £40 if it comes with a Beolink 1000. Most people here will end up selling the remote and taking the TV to the council dump. I have dumped loads of them! The stand that you mention is

Excellent result. I'm glad it's working for you.

The 9500 is well able to handle a pair of Beovox 5000's.

No good Sandy, neither BS4 or Ouverture have RIAA built in.
-
Beomaster 5500 has built in RIAA to match Beogram 5500 which does not. Beomaster 6500 does not have built in RIAA to match Beogram 6500 which does!

The Beogram 5500 has no RIAA pre amp and neither does the Beomaster 6500! You will need a stand alone RIAA pre amp between the two units.
-
Record decks with built in RIAA pre amp have datalink on pin 7 and decks without RIAA pre amps (such as BG8002) have datalink on pin 6. The Beomaster 6500 will expect a deck with datalink on pin 7 indicating built in RIAA pre amp. Your record deck and Beomaster 6500 are incompatible , and you will require a stand alone RIAA pre amp between the two units
