I don't know why you are surprised!! As far as I am concerned the same or better sound can be had from non-B&O audio and this has been true since way back when I was a lad and first became interested in the subject. Would I want that non-B&O stuff in my front room?? In the main, the answer is a resounding NO! B&O sound quality is acceptable

I have a BV1 and the AV socket is configured as VTAPE to make the Sky Digital box work. Although configured as DECODER it doesn't work at all!

There is nothing wrong with the BG5005, especially if the stylus is in good condition. Some of the older turntables are rumoured to sound better but I must say that when I owned the BG4000, I couldn't hear that much difference. The 5005 has the advantage that it will probably be reliable whereas you may spend most of your time fixing the older ones

The "almost play but not quite" CD phenomenon is typical of a C2103 problem. Search for "C2103" on the forum and you will find plenty of information on fixing this.
