The Arcam/B&O posting resulted in questions re abuse of Bass & Treble (see later posts above). What is the general experience? Should we conclude that, in the hands of many, good equipment is abused (and is therefore a complete waste of money for some?) Graham

I agree Dave! I'll also confess to having one of these beds myself, so I too will soon be in the position of having an alarm clock costing 5 times the bed (exc mattress!) If Beotimes were made on the scale that Ikea makes furniture then maybe the Beotimes would be £60! Graham
McIntosh is another matter. Their products are superbly made, even today, and they stand behind them. My 1979 McIntosh 2255 amp failed and McIntosh offered to repair it at the factory. So if I was looking for a new amplifier it would unquestionably be a McIntosh, PERIOD . Jeff
Interesting comment on McIntosh..
what technological advances - any specific that you've heard of in the pipeline?
Nothing specific. Maybe 100% HD broadcasts or another change in lines/dpi to suit as yet unknown/ developing advances in TV? I guess I'm thinking of parallels to the proposed abandonment of FM radio broadcasting.

I've spotted a suggestion that using a cooking oil might be a safe way to treat the aluminium surface, but there are also plenty of tales of the special B&O anodizing being wrecked by different treatments. Does anyone have a safe recommendation? Does anyone know what B&O typically do/ did with their aluminium

OK, so the moderators have just emailed me to say that my message (first of my replies in this thread) has been approved and re-inserted. Well, I still can't see why it needed moderation (unless there was a typo that looked like an unacceptable word???)
Not wishing to hijack the thread, but does everyone else notice this as well. The demo of the Beolab 9s has stuck with me and I can only think of them in this mode despite setting them up later properly. Only the Beolab 5 seems immune because it sets itself!
I'll try to hijack it back (and edit the title
I am very disappointed when I open up a new B&O piece, and discover the mediocre quality of components inside........... ........For the same money as a new B&O anything, better quality is available from other manufacturers - Arcam certainly comes to mind. Menahem
Menahem, Is this a comment on the unservicability
