I suggest you try the grease. Martin

It's not very critical. I don't remember what the manual prescribes but I use a standard ball-bearing type with a not too high viscosity and not too runny either. Martin

It will almost always wobble a bit if dry. Try adding a little grease. Martin

If he has some, then fine. If not, I'll take a look. Make sure that there actually is a threading in the plug. It's my experience that only a few BG4004 had the threaded pins, most had a standard 7-pin plug with no removeable pins (and the outer pins broken off). Martin

Lovely to see a thread about the vintage stuff. My mother, aged 84, has a B&O record changer built in to a large piece of homemade furniture. She rarely uses it but it's great fun to see when she does. The handling of the records as they are changed is a bit rough and the amount of wow (pitch fault) increases drastically as more and more records

Mounting expensive foil caps in (comparatively cheap) speakers like these feels to me like polishing the inside of the cabinets or fitting 200$/meter cables and gold plated terminals. It may feel good and if you have the right instruments for measuring, maybe you can actually measure something but it is really overkill and not worth the cost. But that's

If you are going into both cabinets anyways, you can also swap the midranges and see if the problem moves to the other speaker. Martin

To be honest; In my opinion, the difference from the standard electrolytic types to foil caps are hardly worth the extra cost for these (with all respect) smaller speakers but the choice is of course yours. The kits contain standard types but other types can be arranged if need be. BTW: They are not polarized caps, they are bipolar. They can still have
