If they are equivalent types and correct NPN/PNP types, they will be fine, I'm sure. But don't just replace blindly, check if they are the problem before replacing. Martin

There are 8 transistors, grouped together on the board, forming the H-bridge circuit for the motor control. If one is bad, replace all eight. Your board may look slightly different, there are countless versions, but most have the transistors here: Martin

When the platter is rotating and the deck is "on", will the carriage move to the left if you press << ? If not, it could be a problem with the servo motor control, only allowing the motor to run one way. Martin

I haven't been updating this thread a lot recently. It doesn't mean that I haven't been working on the set, merely that I haven't had time to do the writing. The servo motor should start rotating when you press START (or PLAY as the lettering says on some decks). If it doesn't, you will have to find out why. Check for cracked solder joints at the main board edge connectors. Check the power supplied to the main board. Martin

Don't feed the midrange driver directly from the amplifier. Put a bipolar capacitor (maybe 22uF or so) in series or you will destroy the midrange. Very hard really, to hear anything this way anyways. Martin

It's a bronze bearing so anything from SAE30 and up should be fine. SAE30 or similar oil is good if you can press it into the pores of the sintered bearing material but that is a process that most people cannot do at the kitchen table so I normally recommend a not-too-thick-grease. That's far easier to handle without making a mess, it stays
