Make them tweet! Temporarily connect in place of the tweeter in any other speaker that has a crossover inside, i.e at least a two-way. And keep the volume down. But if they look physically all right and they measure around six ohms (not open, not considerably less) I would expect them to be fine.

The cubes have a filter cap inside of them, so in theory you can just connect them to spkr 2 outputs to run parallel with the other speakers, or whatever. BUT it is not a proper crossover, and it will be very easy to burn the cube tweeters with any proper volume. Not recommended! I think Frede builds a crossover box so you can connect the cubes safely

This is probably a long shot, but take a look in the ML sockets to make sure they aren't messed up somehow. I think the construction is similar to modular (RJ) sockets and the "whiskers" that make contact can sometimes become twisted / dislodged and create shorts. No need to dismantle anything, just grab a small flashlight and take a peek
