We have a room very similiar in size to yours. Our original setup was an Avant with Beolab 1s in front, Beolab 6000s in rear and a Velodyne subwoofer. We brought home a pair of 9s to try out and set them up next to the 1s so we could compare them. The 9s sounded much much better and thus we kept the 9s. We now have a BV7 MKIII with 7-4 and use the 1s
I think the subwoofer output will be disabled, when you assign the front speaker outputs to BL5. LFE channel will be routed to the front speakers - to BL5. If you were missing bass on the BL5 maybe the speakers were not correctly calibrated...(?) Stefan
I just tried the settings on our BV7 MKIII. We have BL9s
. If you have very good speakers, you want as good a treatment of the signal as possible, before it reaches the speakers -- which is why it might be worthwhile to look into getting an internal soundcard (DAC) or external DAC. Your experience is interesting. I have never had the opportunity to do the comparison you did. We have Beolab 9s with a subwoofer and Beolab 1s as the rears. We are very happy with the sound. My understanding is that no subwoofer is needed with the Beolab 5s as the bass in them is better than most subwoofers. With the Beolab 9s some say a subwoofer

Thank you very much for answer Puncher. I will have to take some time and see what I can learn about the soundcard and perhaps other details about the sound on our PC.

There is a nice article about the Beosound 5 in the May/June edition of Home Entertainment magazine. It is also pictured on the cover.

This is all very confusing and technical to me. To add to my confusion, I will ask a question. We have iTunes on a PC connected by Beoport to the Masterlink system. We also have Apple TV connected to our BV7 MKIII by both HDMI and analog. (I wanted HDMI to the BV7 but needed analog if I wanted to use the Apple TV in link rooms) It is syneced with the

Thanks! Another question.....all that we use our desktop for is searching the web, basic word processing, organizing and printing photos and of course, music. Is the entry level Mac Mini sufficient for this or would an upgrade be reccomended? Thanks!

Your comment that it simply works is why I am thinking of switching. Since acquiring an iTouch and Apple TV I have been amazed that they simply work, easy to configure and they do not lock up or freeze. I do wish however that I could keep the Beoplayer on the main pc. When using that computer I do enjoy the Beoplayer interface/controls.
