  • Re: BM 4500 Capacitor Kits and Installation

A capacitor kit is available for the Beomaster 4500 but it's my experience that most Beomaster 4500's are still doing fine with the original components but of course it won't last forever and if there is a fault present, it will have to be diagnosed and fixed. Answers to your questions: 1. If it works and sounds good, no problem. The most

  • Re: Beocenter 3300 - low frequency noise from the speakers

Beocenter 3300 is one of the classic Jensen designs, great sounding amplifier and a pretty good tuner too. Worth restoring and using. The pushbutton problem will be dust in the power switch. Dismounting and taking the switch apart is a fiddly job but it can be done and the contacts inside can be cleaned while in there. Watch out for stray springs and

The 3LS is a wonderful radiogram and this one seems to be in superb condition and cheap too ! Note that it could be either a DC or an AC version. The 3LK (tabletop radio set) and 3LC (chassis in metal box) seems to be rarer than the radiogram. It was also available as a more square'ish and box-like floor standing radiogram known as 3LF, they are

The bass knob; Is that based on the position on the potentiometers track or the position of the knob ? The thing is, that the knobs have little markers. The markers position differs according to the knobs use. What I mean is that all of the small knobs should be of the same type on your set but a knob from a wrong set could have been fitted at some

A wonderful set, a great thread and lovely work ! The foil on top of the bottom plate is for screening under the sensitive IF circuits. For the grey part of the dial, I've found a mix of Humbrol colors 129 & 67 in a mix ratio of apprx 10 to 1 to be a fairly good match. Note that Humbrol colors dry up fairly different from wet so make a couple

Microphonics is almost always caused by either hardened rubber insulators where the FM screened can is mounted to the chassis or the front-end valve itself (where a screen or grid may have losened inside the valve in transport or similar). If extreme, as in your case, my bet is on the valve. (Microphonics is an unwanted side-effect where you can hear

Yes, the ECC85 is the one. It's very easy to replace the valve and see if it helps. Crackling is normally caused by oxidated contacts expanding, even if ever so slightly, as the set warms up. Valve pins and the pushbutton switches are main suspects but other things can also cause the fault. A hint of DC voltage that comes and goes on an output valve

Nice photos ! That's one very clean set indeed. Looks recently dusted. This was the last valve model from B&O and the one with most refined circuitry, top of the range. That makes it even more funny that they made a typo on the label Present/Precent. The lack of sensitivity that we spoke about could easily be caused by the frontend valve. They

Wow, nice finds, guys ! I can't remember ever seeing a Beolit 41 with brown knobs. All I've seen were white (ivory). Martin
