  • Digital satellite decoder + HD recorder for Avant

We live in the UK, but my wife enjoys watching foreign TV, such as the channels from the far east which are available via the HotBird satellites. Currently, our receiver is a Nokia dBox running DVB2000 software, and we have the Avant VCR set to record her favorite shows each day. We've come to the conclusion that daily writing tapes like this will

  • Re: Avant 32VTR goes Avant "DVD" Project finished

Is the DVD controlled via the SCART? I've never had my hands on a DVD1, so I don't know - where is the eject button? Mark

Thank you, Steve - I've now emailed Ian, and am waiting patiently. I'll let you know whether I need to be on your waiting list. Mark

Thank you, Peter. I'll measure up, to see how the "custom" shelf would look (although at that price, I can see the burglar leaving the turntable, but taking the shelf). I did consider using a couple of wooden brackets - Ikea do some nice ones, but I like the idea of the "concealed" feel to the B&O shelf. I understand that

  • Turntable shelf

I was torn between "wanted" and "general" for this post, but settled on the latter... Someone used to advertise turntable shelves on ebay, which they had "improved" from the B&O design. Now that I need one, they seem to have stopped advertising. Can anyone here remind me who they are? Alternatively, can anyone suggest

  • Re: Beocord 5000 running fast

OK, guys, thank you. I've been trying the deck out with some of my pre-recorded tapes from the 1970s and 1980s, and they certainly do sound much better than I remember them. Even with the deterioration which must have occurred over that time, the sound quality and depth is impressive. That's with a Sony amp and Linn speakers. Must get a BeoMaster

Solved! The problem was the motor. I installed one from a new "piano key" mechanism that I've had taking up cupboard space since the 1970s, adjusted the speed, and the deck now works beautifully. Shame it's not auto-reverse! Mark

  • Re: Beocord 5000 running fast

Nope, that wasn't the problem. The tape is running at capstan speed. Actually, if I hold the roller off the capstan, the tape moves slowly, as "take up" torque is low. Release roller to normal position, I get pinky and perky voices. Pressing the roller harder onto the capstan makes no difference. This suggests to me that the problem must

Good idea! I'll take a look this evening and report back. Thank you, Mark
