The Dirigent, for it's slick looks and progressive concept: only FM reception and 'mulitmedia' prepared :). The Beocord 1200/1600, best looking RtoR ever (only competitor i know of is the later Lyrec Frida, als from DK).

Geoff, first of all it has nothing to do with the tube going (or not) to it's end. Since it seems to be there kind of every now and than it's not an adjustment, but in any case the menu doesn't have an adjustment for the effect you describe. To me the only thing i can think of with a tilting pic is a magnetic source somewhere near the tv

on link 1000: press [menu], than use the > arrow to move to AV1, than use the v or ^ to change the option, once it is what you like it to be (like Vtape-1 non B&O) press [play] to store. If you like you can set AV2 in the same way. Leave the menu with pressing [TV] and if you press [Vtape] it wil switch to AV1 scart on the back. If you set AV2

AV button is for link applications and has nothing to do with the scart sockets. First you have to program the scarts (called AV1 and AV2 in the menu) for for example v-tape1 and v-tape2 and than you can use then pressing vtape (for vtape1) or shift-vtape (for vtape2) on the link 1000 remote.

Dave, i'd just keep an eye on it if it comes back or not and just not worry too much about it yet :). Than if it comes back (and you're confident to work inside a tv !!!!! otherwise have someone to do so) try tapping the tube end to see if this has an influence. Once established it is a fault in the tube you could try putting the tv on the floor

Indeed: sounds like the tube unfortunately. Not too common as far as i know with RF tubes, but recently i bought a BV3-32 with the same problem. Don't know if you can do repairs or otherwise have a friend into this, it might be an option to try the 'tapping' way to fix it again (this occasionaly works with the curved ESF tubes in Avant and

Hello Jan, from the above i assume you know a bit (or maybe a lot) about tv technology etc, so you're able to service tv's ? First i'd check the power supply (if the 140V is present or better, check with scope to see what happens...if the powersupply switches/trips or so). Its easy to find this one: the big capacitor on the secondary side

If the TV picture looks fine, than what's the 'defect' you're referring to ? (if it's working there's no defective part). What might be an idea is to clean the inside with a brush and vacuum cleaner, maybe this takes the smell away..not sure what boiling lead smells like :).

Indeed: totally normal, when switched on the tv degausses, which is a short buzz, abt 1 sec and than the EHT comes up on the tube whichis the crackle. When powered down, modern tv's like the Avant discharge the tube/EHT circuit which again gives the crackle. Old tv's didn't use to do so resulting in a static electricity charge left in the
