Thanks for the help.A drop of epoxy should do the trick.

The 3000-2 I am restoring has the main tuner dial cord separated from the slider. The slider just has a white post sticking out near the string. Is there a part missing here?or was the string just glued to the post?.
-
While we are on the subject,I notice that the 3000-2 has a lot of tantalum electrolytics.Do these deteriorate over time and need replacement like the others?

Thanks guys, very informative.I thought the function of those 2 ouput caps was a bit unique, now I understand. My 3 large caps don't appear to be leaking or bubbling.I have cleaned the sliders and switches as best as I can without disassembling them.It is working and sounding good. And it looks good too!I have a couple of other questions that I will

Thanks for the input guys.No Dillen,I don't get you wrong at all and I appreciate the input.I simply want to make sure I am not downgrading from the original design.I have drawers full of standard grade caps, but was buying audio grade caps simply for peace of mind.If I can get some rational advise from some of you guys, perhaps I can start using

I am getting ready to do a recap on my BM3000-2,I have most of my caps.I am using Elna Silmic and Wima MKS,but am having trouble finding "audio grade" caps for the three large 5000uf/70V caps.My question is:Do I really need "audio" grade caps or is this just a gimmic?I have some 4700uf caps and 5600uf but am not sure what level of

Glad you should mention that,Peter. My ears were not deceiving me.I thought that BC7000 sounded better than my BM2400.Good to have someone second that.My BC 7000 is recapped, has new belts on the tape drive and is working well.

Just picked up a 3000-2!can't wait to tear into it for restoration.I will go into the workbench later with a few technical questions. Thanks for all the info.

I currently own a BC7000 and a BM2400,both fully recapped.Love the design, but am looking to step up in sound quality.I am looking to buy something cheap that is in poor or non funtioning condition to restore. The 4400s and 8000 I have seen went for more than I(my wife) cared to spend. Is it safe to say that any of these models mentioned above would provide

Thanks much,Peter.I appologize when I said 4500 I meant 4400,the one you consider to be exceptional. The two I have had my eye on are the modestly priced 4000 and 3000,and I was wondering how much of a downgrade they are to the flagship models.
