Pictures and colour all fine but it has just developed a flickering ..... worse when running through Sky. Does this mean the tube is on it's way out?

Sorry if this appears to be a silly question but I was just wondering if there is anyway I can do this - as I am currently struggling with an alternative solution as to where to put it. Currently it is sitting on a trunk at the side of the Avant but I am finding that it is distracting from the lines of the Avant. Any suggestions/help would be most appreciated

Ipaul The tube is fine - its a line output problem and despite being manufactured in 1998 it has only been used for 296 days (7,000 hours) so not even run in! I am going ahead with the repair because as previously mentioned I don't really have a choice. Tracy

I have just had a call from the repair shop who has confirmed that my no picture but sound ok fault on my Avant is definately not the picture tube - it is the line output. Whilst still a fairly cost repair - the service indicators are showing that despite being manufactured in 1998 - it has only been used for 296 days (7,000 hours) so should be good

Thanks for the insights ipaul. Repair is being done by Simon of AVA Services Ltd in Coulsdon who is highly respected in B&O circles over here and very familiar with Avants. I take on board what you say regarding the tube replacement not being worth it, but as I can't give the TV back broken, unfortunately I have no choice but to go ahead with

Mark Thanks for offer but suspect given I'm in the South East this probably wouldn't be an option. In your experience would you have any idea of the replacement cost of a tube heater and how length of time to fit? Thanks Tracy

All I know is that I'm waiting for the engineer to advise the cost of repair to the tube heater as when he took the back off yesterday this was not driving the tube. Am at wits end as other half

Jan In your experience would you not bother with a replacement tube heater? When the engineer looked at it, the tube heater was not glowing therefore not driving the tube. Is it worth going down this route in the first instance? Ollie Bollie
