Not always/often the case.

There will always be exceptions, and the more technically minded are probably well represented on these boards, so there is a knowledge base far higher than in the general population. It can sometimes sound a bit insulting/pompous to a technically able person when a shop suggest the fitting of a new widget is the reserve of a skilled technician, when in fact 5 minutes and an allen key will have it sorted.

However, I have been present on more than one occasion when items are brought back into a shop - clearly broken/damaged from a badly done botch job - and the customer is not only asking for a refund on the now useless spare part, but also wants a complimetary repair in lieue of their time and trouble.....preferably that afternoon

The problem is where to draw the line. One man's five minute tweak is often another man's two hour disaster - hence the reluctance to supply spare parts as if they are scart leads. It is a grey area - I know from conversations that some customers see this as sinply an attempt to obtain a service fee.

btw - Keith, you are truly a technical guru, and all-round BeoBrain.

Regards

David

Re: BEOCOM 6000 MK 1 - SERIAL 17073173 - REGISTRATION HANDSET/BASE

You can purchase this kit from any B&O dealer, however most dealers do not appear to be aware of these kits.

Where are you located ?

Re: BEOCOM 6000 MK 1 - SERIAL 17073173 - REGISTRATION HANDSET/BASE

Thanks very much Keith.

I am correct in assuming that this repair kit can be bought from any B&O high street shop?

Kind regards

Re: BEOCOM 6000 MK 1 - SERIAL 17073173 - REGISTRATION HANDSET/BASE

Based on your answers, I would say that you have an RF chip failure after a period of it being intermittent. The failure of the RF chip in the Mark I handsets is quite common and the chips are no longer available.
However B&O make a repair kit part number 3455103 for about £50 or 80 Euros which includes the following items:-

This will make your Mark I phone into a Mark II phone EXCEPT that it will NOT have an Earset socket but WILL still work on your Mark I chargers. The repair kit has no instructions, so if you do purchase it you will need to come back for detailed instructions on how to install the parts as it is not that straight forward.

Re: BEOCOM 6000 MK 1 - SERIAL 17073173 - REGISTRATION HANDSET/BASE

Eduard,

Thanks very much for the quick tip, I will certainly give it a go.

Re: BEOCOM 6000 MK 1 - SERIAL 17073173 - REGISTRATION HANDSET/BASE

Keith,

Many thanks for swift response. In answer to some of your questions.

1. Yes I have just one handset.

2. I bought the handset new.

3. Signal connection <NO SIGNAL> tends to appear on the handset now and again due to wireless router interference and normally sorts it's self out if I unplug all the relevant equipment and then replug them in one by one - however not on this occasion. The <NO SIGNAL> remained through and through. Having consulted the instruction manual, I decided to unregister the handset from the base and then re-register the handset hoping to find a nice fresh and strong signal. This is when the whole <REGISTRATION> and <PIN> problem kicked off. I tried to <REGISTER BASE> at least eight times between pressing the registration button on the base and searching on the handset.

4. I believe that I tried to un-register the phone/handset and a <REGISTRATION ERROR> appeared on the screen. However, I can't be certain, I will try it out again this evening. Would you be kind enough to outline the correct procedure for this operation.

5. If the RF chip has become faulty, what does this normally entail.

6. Final question: Is there a reset procedure, similar to the one indicated by eduard, if you have the incorrect PIN?

Many thanks

Re: BEOCOM 6000 MK 1 - SERIAL 17073173 - REGISTRATION HANDSET/BASE

I am assuming you have just one handset ? please confirm.. If you have other Beocom 6000's, are they all working coirrectly ?

If it is asking you for a pin code, then you may have 6 handset registered to your base and that is the reason for the error.

So, why was the signal connection lost in the first place, there could be many reasons including:-

Nearby interference from Microwave oven or wireless router

The RF chip in the phone has gone faulty or intermittent.

If you only have one Beocom 6000, then it is unlikely that you have reached six registered phones on the base unless you purchased the base and phone 4 years ago second hand and the seller left registered phones on the base. Nevertheless I would start by un-register all phones and then start again registering your phone.

If that does not fix the problem, is it possible that there is something new that could be causing interference, if still you have a problem then it is almost certain that the RF chip in the phone has become fault which actually is a very common fault.

BEOCOM 6000 MK 1 - SERIAL 17073173 - REGISTRATION HANDSET/BASE

Beocom 6000 Mk 1 - owner for about 4 years, experienced no real problems with the telephone.
