The Cona is really only suited for music.

For a surround sound movie experience, get an active unit.

Well you can do, though the quality of the 6000s is not as good as the 8000s and the front speakers do far more than the rears in any set up. I would personally rather have wall mounted 4000s as fronts as you will get more bass that way. I agree about a non B&O active sub rather than a Cona.

an active non B&O sub should be fairly cheap and i assume it would connect to my Avant no problems.... May be the best option as BL2's are still £1k+ which is a bit rich for my blood for a sub.

Would BL6000s up front ruin the sound - i'd keep the BL8000s as rears purley for aesthetic reasons as its a focal point when walking into the lounge.

The Cona is pretty useless in a powerlink based system (like you describe). Technically it works, connected to a passive, however the results might be very unsatisfactory to you.

I have moved from passive to active speakers now (BL8000 fronts and BL2500 rears) and have my cona running like that on my beosystem1.
If you don't have one yet, don't bother and try to find a powered non B&O sub new (or second hand )
It will be much more satisfactory and better matched with the beolabs.
The cona really was designed to take over the low end of the CX speakers providing a lower bass and a better midrange.

A BL2 is out of my price range hence the Cona and Passive combo. Thinking of adding some BL6000s to my setup (could get away with those i think....) but i've owned some before and they are not that impressive for the depth of sound i'm trying to go for.....

I really don't think it will do much. You really do need front speakers though - they make far more difference to the sound than rears. If you want the sub for films, you need something with a bit more oomph! I use a Beolab 2.

You certainly need a beolink passive, MLC2P or similar amp. I tried powering up the cona without a dedicated amp and was not happy.

It will make a difference certainly.

Hi gents, i've lost a battle with the missus - she's not letting me go for Penta 3's as my front speakers in my setup because they are ugly! No comment. Anyhow, I've an Avant and i'm using BL8000s as my rears with no fronts. I'm thinking of a Cona connected to the avant for a bit of depth to my music and movies and forgoe any front speakers. Will it work - i'd need a MC2LP or something wouldn't I? Worth doing? Anyone else heard/seen this type of setup before. Much rather have the Mk3's but i like my testicles too much
