I can warmly advise you a second hand MX 7000, the BV3 and MX4000 series.

MX 7000 has far better sound! Compared to a MX 4000. And are low piced now! With wide screen picture you will enjoy the bigger screen. Go for a recent MX 7000 with BEO 4 remote.

The MX4200 has a different tube to all the other sets - it uses a Panasonic real flat tube. If you look at the contrast screen, you can see how it differs markedly. Made taking the picture of it more difficult! I thought the BV1 had a Philips derived screen. Agree about the chassis though.

The jewel in the crown is the MX4200. Most people, including many members of this forum, think that it just another 4000 seriers TV.

Well, i'll let you in on a secret..............under that MX4000 series skin beats the heart and screen of a 21in version of the Beovision 1 with Masterlink and Set top box controller included! The picture quality is outstanding and the sound from the active speakers is something else.

Can be picked up on eBay for little over £200 'cos nobody knows what they are!!!

I think you answered the 4000 vs 4002 question yourself!

The 4000 cannot be used as a link TV. Otherwise they are the same.

I'm still using my Beovision LX5500 from 1989.

I've had it since 2006 and its really great value for money. They last better than the Avant and MX series.

It depends on the tv signal but the picture is very sharp and sound very good.

I use a VX7000 and a JVC dvd player on the 2 scart inputs. I get a extra remote with the dvd but it works great otherwise.

At the moment quite a few dealers may have some CRT TV's that they have taken in part ex. There was a recent offer to trade in CRT's against flatscreens. Just picked up an Avant 28" VCR for £100 from my local dealer.

Hi:

I own both an Avant VHS and a Beovision 1 and can attest to the quality of both. That said, I would strongly advise you against getting a bargain basement Avant VHS because once the tube goes you are going to be lumbered with moving a very heavy TV to the tip - I have moved mine twice and it was not a plesant experience. I have seen a Beovision one on Ebay for about £200 BIN. For this money you will have a TV that is likely to last a long time, you can change the casing of it to suit your decor and can mount it on different stands and the like. If you get an older MX TV for free then fair enough, but remember you will have to buy either an all in one remote from Ebay that is compatible with B&O or buy a beo4 for around £60 if you do not have one already.

Thus Avant VHS as late as possible - pref flat screen to avoid failing tubes issue as best as possible

Beovision 1 non LS (masterlink) best price and quality for money

Others may not agree

There is an excellent description of the MX differences on Beocentral. There were some free sets being offered by King Street a few weeks ago - I would keep looking especially in places like Loot where you may find some sub £100 sets.

The 4200 will still be pricey as will the BV1/BC1 that seem to be keeping their values.

Not sure my budget would stretch that far, I'm looking at the MX series as they are smaller, and older, so hopefully cheaper, and the Avant VCR model and CTV model for the same reasons. Any idea of price for those??

Also do you know the answer to the MX4000 vs MX4002/4200 question?

Hiya, you can pick up a beovision 3 on ebay for around £300 to £400, I think they are the most stylish CRT TV's ever produced and the picture quality is arguably comparible to HD (no joke) and the sound is awsome as the whole frame is an active speaker. I'm not sure about the 28 inch but the 32 inch has 3 scart sockets so you can easily connect any standard dvd, sky/cable and vcr. You migh even be able to pick one up from a dealer (they often handle part exchanges) so you could get some kind of a warranty.

You can use any DVD VCR with a B&O TV. Which is pretty handy because the B&O options are so limited. The biggest challenge is to find a box that doesn'tt look like a piece of junk next to (or below) the B&O.

On your second point, B&O CRT prices have dropped off a lot because it just doesn't seem that smart to spend more than the price of a new Sony or Panasonic on an old CRT, whatever the make. That said, if you view standard definition broadcasts you'll be hard pushed to find ANY LCD TV that can match a B&O CRT for picture quality. I recently watched my mate's Beovision 1 and the picture is spectacular. I'd say they are a good buy but you do need to remember that a CRT tube won't last forever, so don't pay too much.

Hello and welcome to Beoworld. There are no such thing as stupid questions here. We try our best to answer them all. So let me try with yours.

There will be no problem connecting a non B&O DVD and VCR to a B&O TV. You will not be able to control them with the B&O remote though, so you may end up with more than one remote. At the moment second hand B&O CRT's are an absolute bargain. Don't know of any models that have problems with dry joints. Looks as though you are getting quite a collection already. That happens to us all I am afraid, it's known as Beovirus.

Hello

This is my first post on here, and sadly its a few stupid questions...

Is it possible to connect non-B&O equipment (eg. VCR or DVD player) to a B&O television? I can only afford to buy a TV right now, not even sure I can manage that but hey ho, and I want to use it as a standalone piece within my existing setup. Is this doable?

What is the difference between an MX4000 and a 4002/4200? I know the 4002/4200 have Beolink, but what difference will that make in laymans terms?

My parents had a Beovision 7700 when I was small, and it died, to be replaced by a Sony. The untimely demise of the B&O was brought about I seem to remember by dry joints. Does this sound likely, and is it likely to afflict the more modern B&O tube televisions (Avant/MX/Beovision1/Beocenter1)?

Have read on here that the bottom has fallen out of the prices of B&O tube televisions of late. How cheap are we talking?

Like I said, probably all dumb questions! My first, and only so far, bits of B&O are a Beomaster 901, Beocord 900, A pair of S30s and a Beogram 1203 (which isn't currently working), so a little bit less technologically advanced than the televisions!
