Hmm [^o)] What's this old speaker?

    Hi,

I found this old speaker on an auction site, and although I didn't buy it, I still wonder what it is?!

    Any ideas?

Very interesting little speaker! You should have bought it! B&O's first foray into ALT technology! It is a separate omnidirectional tweeter - Frede has a pair. I think they are from the 50s. I attach a picture of one dismantled. You can see there are two drive units facing each other with a lens in between.

AFAIK they were produced between 1963 and 1965. The Beovox 2500 cube was in a way its successor, as they both were designed as additional speakers for dispersion of the higher frequencies. Agree with Peter you should have bought them!

I saw them at Frede's - very rare and beautifully made!

Do we have model numbers and more info - we could add these to the product database!

    Re: What's this old speaker?

Somebody seems to spot a pair of these about three times a year, and still we don't have a name for them!
'Rondstraller' or something similar is the nearest I have heard, dutch I think.
    Anybody??

As far as i know they were known as Rondstraler in Holland. In Danish I think it was Højtonerundspreder. That would probably translate into something like hightone distributor. No idea what it's official name was in English, though...

When Keith did the upgrade to the forum some of the older photos were lost, hence the lack of photos here (check the posting dates)!

    Peter :

    I have reposted my picture.

Thanks Peter.  Yes, they are indeed lovely looking.  Am I alone in thinking that tweeter fired at a lens is familiar from B&O's current range? Smile

I remember 80's speakers (especially Jamo's) having aluminium slatted fins over the aluminium domed tweeters pointing down and across to prevent "beaming" - then no lenses, and now back to what B&O were doing 40 years ago Smile
